Been thinking about writing a lot in recent months. Doing more of it, at least in short form. I want to get to the point where I can publish things that someone will find of value, though I realize that’s a common blocker to online publishing—you should publish for yourself, if there is an audience, that will come later.

I switched my journaling strategy last year: I used to keep a Moleskine-type sketchbook, but it ended up being 70% writing and 30% sketching. So I decided to do my “text” journaling in EverNote and keep a larger-format sketchbook for purely visual stuff. Which is good—it’s got me doing more (and less precious) sketching—but one thing I’ve realized is that a lot of my sketching is done in words. For me, writing is just more efficient than drawing in a lot of cases. A sketch is static, but words can describe movement, change, interactivity, etc.

Also, it supports the concept, introduced to me by a colleague a couple years ago, of using writing to work my way into or through a problem. You think about things a different way when you write about them. I recommend it.
